The Yarra Riverkeeper Association (YRKA) is the community voice for the river. Through our research and time spent along you Yarra, we have built an informed and evidence-based community understanding of the river as a single, living and integrated entity from source to the bay. We regularly patrol the river in our boat, on foot and on a bike which gives us a deep intuitive understanding of the river and its role in the life of Melbourne and beyond. Our main areas are river advocacy, research, litter prevention, regeneration, community engagement and education.
We aim to protect your Yarra from mouth to source, to revitalise the river and to foster love for the river by current and future generations.
We work towards a Yarra River, and its tributaries, that are healthy, protected and loved.
Protecting and regenerating the Yarra River corridor for you, future generations and all species that call the catchment home.
Equipping the community, fellow environment and community organisations and decision makers with the relevant knowledge and skills needed to protect and care for their local environment.
Helping the Yarra be realised as one integrated living natural entity.
Giving a helping hand to the multiple animals, plants and little critters that rely on your Yarra.
Every action can make a difference in improving the health of the River and the Melbourne community. Thanks to the help of volunteers, members, supporters, partners and the community we have already achieved so much - and we can’t wait to see what the future holds. We hope you can be a part of our story.
